COTSWOLDS FARMHOUSE

This Grade II Listed Cotswolds farmhouse is situated in its own farmland and is nestled in beautiful countryside near the banks of the river Windrush.

Our clients - a London-based couple with four grown children and a dog - had taken on the renovation of this lovely Georgian house as their country escape with the long-term plan of retiring there. They called on Charlotte Thomas Studio to design room schemes and to advise on installation and styling.

This was a wonderful example of Charlotte turning overwhelm and uncertainty into confident joy, with the resulting house transformation providing a comfortable, practical and incredibly welcoming home.

BEDROOM 1

This corner bedroom has a pretty double aspect, offering unspoilt views over the farm land, vegetable garden and hens outside. When golden hour descends, its yellow walls glow in an intensely relaxing way. Rather than taking the warm light for granted, Charlotte played with it to create a South of France aesthetic - full sunflower yellow, juxtaposed with cornflower blue and an old off-white. Pictures and antiques from our clients’ family add a layer of patina and tell their story.

BEDROOM 2

Graced with views from the front of the house and over the back lawn, flower borders and farm land beyond, this well-proportioned bedroom has a naturally calm atmosphere. Its stone-framed windows are a wonderful reminder of the Cotswolds origins of the house that was built in 1780. Our clients’ brief was to create a quintessentially bucolic English room and to make it feel inviting and comfortable. Charlotte embraced the blowsy floral chintz of Sanderson’s collections and balanced it with a clean-lined geometric paper and luxe, thick linens in natural colours. This is a bedroom often ‘bagsied’ by returning guests.

BEDROOM 3

A pretty twin bedroom in the middle of the house that called for little interference other than a gentle colour palette and layered materials and patterns.

BEDROOM 4

A small double with a pretty outlook over the rear lawns and mature cedars at the bottom of the garden, this room has a naturally cosy feel to it, being on the smallish side. Charlotte maximised floor space by designing two little bedside shelves and chose a joyful and iconic GP&J Baker fabric and a vibrant orange velvet to energise this bedroom.
