Sustainability
I founded my interior design practice with one aim, which remains as important today as it was on Day One: To enrich lives by transforming homes through good design, craftsmanship and considered materials.
This combination of elements focuses my design work on efficiency; practicality; investment in artisanal craftsmanship that may otherwise cease to exist; and making conscious choices when it comes to procuring and sourcing furniture, equipment, fabrics, paints and accessories.
“In our current economy, we take materials from the Earth, make products from them, and eventually throw them away as waste – the process is linear. In a circular economy, by contrast, we stop waste being produced in the first place”, Ellen Macarthur Foundation.
A circular economy is based on three principles, driven by design: 1) eliminate waste and pollution; 2) circulate products and materials; and 3) regenerate nature. I try, in my own small way, to support a circular economy in the work that I do.
When embarking on your project, rather than wiping the slate clean, I explore what you already own, editing through your possessions to reveal treasured pieces, practical items and objects that can be repurposed or up-cycled, such as furniture that can be restored and brought back to life and photos and artworks that can be restored and reframed, either in vintage frames or handmade, hand-painted ones.
