CHARLOTTE THOMAS, FOUNDER
“Charlotte displayed, in abundance, one of the most important aspects of a client/designer relationship... she really listened.”
Lucy & Tim Henman, Oxfordshire
As a specialist in transforming classic period homes, Charlotte and her nimble team provide a comprehensive interior design service. This can be design only - in person or by video calls if your property is at a distance from our Oxfordshire studio - or the working relationship can be continued so that the approved designs can be brought to life through project management, procurement and installation.
Charlotte’s work is distinguished by an elegantly relaxed aesthetic, seamlessly blending traditional English and French country style with fresh, contemporary touches. Practicality and ‘livability’ are at the core of each design: the studio is known for getting the best out of problematic spaces, which are quite common in the beautiful period properties our clients own.
Coming from a family of creatives and having grown up in period family homes in London, Kent, Sussex, Somerset, Antibes and Avignon - each transformed in turn by her interior designer mother - Charlotte has, to date, renovated three British Listed houses of her own. This immersive background, coupled with her professional design training and first career in high-end fashion and lifestyle brands, has resulted in a keen eye for aesthetics, scale and form and her resulting talent for interior design.
Having unapologetically chosen her secondary school and university for their architecture (The King’s School, Canterbury has classrooms in and around the cathedral and Durham’s beautiful Norman cathedral is the focal point of the student campus), Charlotte is respectful of the history and architecture of each property project, while ensuring that practicality, contemporary requirements and client individuality lead her designs.
Inspired by the belief that every home should tell a unique story, Charlotte has a collaborative approach which helps her fully understand each client’s lifestyle, vision and preferences. Clients consistently praise her genuine listening skills, keen attention to detail and exceptional creative vision. This, our clients say, leads to a transformed house that truly feels like it is theirs and that it “has always been this way”.
While Charlotte’s creativity and ability to transform a space is a given, she is not a huge fan of Excel spreadsheets, Gantt charts or Xero accounting software. Acutely aware of her frustrations in these areas, she has hired people better than herself to ensure that her clients are served to the highest level and her business thrives. Hattie is the Studio Assistant who makes everything run like Swiss clockwork and Jon is the diligent accountant who ensures everyone is paid the correct amount at the correct time and that HMRC is constantly content.
These factors all contribute to Charlotte’s ability to create spaces that not only captivate aesthetically but also deeply resonate on a personal level.
